This atmospheric little fishing village up the West Coast of South Africa has been known to travellers, adventurers and hunters from the Cape since the second half of the 17th century. The Sandveld Museum sheds light on the various cultures and activities of the early days.
Lamberts Bay is famed for its springtime wild flowers, and Bird Island, aptly named and accessible on foot via the harbour wall, is another major attraction. Enormous numbers of aquatic birds (over 150 species) including Cape Gannets, Cape Cormorants and Seagulls inhabit the island, as well as dozens of jackass Penguins A endangered species).
